On the last day of March

Even for today,
When the fleeting seems to rule the eternal
And beauty is eclipsed, concealed,
By a world that would drown us in deep shades of gray;

Even for today,
As the mundane dulls my wandering mind
To thoughts of the grand and true,
And my eyes long to see the next step along the way;

Even for today,
My heart is not in what must be done,
And longs far more for what will be
As these fleeting shadow-sirens’ song fades away,

Even for today,
Which I must trust You designed for my good,
I give thanks for today, Lord,
Even for today.
