Mixed metaphors

Usually, I don’t “go there” with political stuff on this blog. (I have considered establishing another blog for this purpose, but I don’t have enough time and would probably write about work too much.) But I can’t resist this, on so many levels. Maybe the fact that we’re less than three weeks out from the midterms and it’s all my two remaining coworkers in the leg office talk about. Maybe it’s that I know so many people from Pennsylvania. Maybe it’s just the sheer insanity of mixing Tolkien and politics. We report, you decide.

U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum said America has avoided a second terrorist attack for five years because the “Eye of Mordor” has been drawn to Iraq instead.
“As the hobbits are going up Mount Doom, the Eye of Mordor is being drawn somewhere else,” Santorum said, describing the tool the evil Lord Sauron used in search of the magical ring that would consolidate his power over Middle-earth.
“It’s being drawn to Iraq and it’s not being drawn to the U.S.,” Santorum continued. “You know what? I want to keep it on Iraq. I don’t want the Eye to come back here to the United States.”
