The last light
Of the last day
Of the last year I lived
Falls blue across the horizon
My thoughts are full of where I’ve been
And where I want to be
Of tears and joy, of hope and fear,
And of those I love
Yet every night
Should we not take account
Of what has been,
And what is to come?
Is this not just another day,
Another sunset, another dawn
As this moment
Is but another gift of breath?
A new day,
Are they not both miracles
And be lived in as such?
Oh remind me, remind me,
So when my time is through
The world will remember me
And simply say, she lived.
