From mid-July to the end of August is, without a doubt, my least favorite time of the year in D.C. I don’t like it when it’s too hot to be outside and the Metro system smells like three-day-old fish. However, there is still much to be appreciated during this time, including:
- Fireflies.
- I can wear my Hawaiian shirt in public (not to work, but in public).
- Everything (except some of the plants on our porch) is green, green, green.
- Screen on the Green - the Mall is actually quite lovely in the summer once the sun has been down for half an hour or so.
- Congressional reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeecess!
- Nearly omnipresent air conditioning.
So there. I’m counting my blessings.
I don’t have much insightful to say at the moment so I will simply pass on the very hilarious lyrics to the newest Smashmouth single, “Story of My Life.” And no, I’m not trying to say something. Honest. :)
I get to the party, but I’m too late
And I got stood up on my very first date
I listen to country and everybody listens to rock
I get to the dance floor, that’s when the music stops
It doesn’t matter what I do, I just can’t seem to win
But here I go again
And I say, hey, that’s the story of my life
I had a good plan but it didn’t go right
Oh, no, I’m overdrawn
I check my account and the money’s all gone
Why me? I don’t know what to think
I finally get aboard and the whole boat sinks
Seems to be the story of my life
I pick a slot machine and lose it all again
But when I walk away, someone else always wins
She finally calls me, I forgot my phone
And when I’m starving, you know the kitchen’s closed
It doesn’t matter what I try, it all ends the same
And here I go again
Just when it seems like it’s turning around for me
There’s always something ends up happening
I found my car but I can’t find my keys
And I say, hey, that’s the story of my life
I had a good plan but it didn’t go right
Oh, no, I’m overdrawn
I check my account and the money’s all gone
Why me? I don’t know what to think
I finally get aboard and the whole boat sinks
Seems to be the story of my life

I would say that your second bullet point is debatable. :-P
