For Advent

The first in (hopefully) a series of Latin-based posts celebrating the Incarnation...
If you have known me for just about any length of time, you know that Christmastime is my favorite season. I have already been convicted this year of the need to celebrate the true Reason for Christmas. The world waited long for Him, and now that He has come, how much we take Him for granted. The Incarnation was a step in God's infinitely amazing plan to redeem a people for Himself.
Oh, how deep our need for Him - but oh, how complete His fullness. Gaude.

Veni, veni Emmanuel,
Captivum solve Israel
Qui gemit in exilio
Privatus Dei Filio.
Gaude, gaude! Emmanuel
Nascetur pro te, Israel

Veni, o Jesse Virgula;
Ex hostis tuos ungula,
De specu tuos tartari
Deduc et antro barathri.
Gaude, gaude! Emmanuel
Nascetur pro te, Israel

Veni, veni, o Oriens
Solare nos adveniens;
Noctis depele nebulas
Dirasque noctis tenebras.
Gaude, gaude! Emmanuel
Nascetur pro te, Israel

Veni clavis Davidica
Regna reclude caelica;
Fac iter tutum superum,
Et claude vias inferum.
Gaude, gaude! Emmanuel
Nascetur pro te, Israel

Veni, veni Adonai,
Qui populo in Sinai
Legem dedisti vertice,
In majestate gloriae.
Gaude, gaude! Emmanuel
Nascetur pro te, Israel
